The Homecoming: by Rabindranath Tagore

Phatik Chakravorti was ringleader among the boys of the village. A new mischief got into his head. There was a heavy log lying on the mud-flat of the river waiting to be shaped into a mast for a boat. He decided that they should all work together to shift the log by main force from its place and roll it away. The owner of the log would be angry and surprised, and they would all enjoy the fun. Every one seconded the proposal, and it was carried unanimously.

How sad a story is The Homecoming by Rabeendranadh Tagore?

Phatik, his younger brother Makhan and their mother, that was his family. His father had died long ago and it was their mother who brought them up. Somewhere in the go, mother began to favor Makhan and poor Phatik was eventually ignored or feared. Phatik had to seek love and consideration outside his divided home. Having heard from his sister, this uncle agreed to take Phatik home to Calcutta. This story can be fully understood by those who have a younger brother or a younger sister. In India, even in the 21st century, parents express different kinds of love for their children in different intensity.

As a key figure in the modernization of Bengali literature, Rabindranath Tagore wrote in every literary form that existed at the time: poetry, drama, prose, memoir, philosophy, musical lyrics. But he didn't write in every form all of the time, and the vast majority of his short stories were written at the end of the 19th century. As the introduction to this Penguin collection of Tagore's stories states, the vast majority of Tagore's short stories were written in the s, and this collection almost exclusively focuses on short fiction from that period. Tagore wrote short fiction during this period mainly because that's what there was a demand for at the time. Readers of Bengali fiction at the time first and foremost read Bengali-language literature publications. It wasn't an uncommon practice for Bengali writers to serialize novels in these periodicals, much like Charles Dickens would serialize his novels in the British literary press.

Post a Comment. What did Phatik and his friends decide to do? March Phatik Chakravati was a typical naughty village boy about fourteen years old. He was the ring leader of his gang. He never went to school but spent the whole day flying kites, swimming in the river and playing mischief.

Passage, explanation, Long answer, short answer etc! I have a question that what is the significance of this story home coming. Once there lived a fourteen years boy named Phatik Chakravarthy. His father expired when he was very young. He lived with his mother and brother named Makhan Chakravarthy. As Phatik lost his father very early and was always scolded for one or the other reason by his mother he grew lazy, disobedient, arrogant and very mischievous, but his brother Makhan was very obedient and good at studies.
