I am guilty as charged. Then began discussions of moving…. And suddenly I had a surge of pride and defensiveness about our home — our beautiful habitat. When faced with leaving it, I had a new found appreciation and love of it. I define two categories of changes in residential design: surface and structural. Obviously structural changes are the big and expensive changes: kitchen or bath renovation, re moving a wall, adding a window, an addition, etc.

Track my home. House love, that is. A lot of times people buy houses because they fall in love with certain features. When we moved into our house decades ago, I wanted to take the tree out of the front yard. But we sort of forgot about it for a while and, when our kids got big enough, we put a tire swing on the tree and our kids loved it. Years passed and I actually loved watching the tree grow and change colors with the seasons.
I like that. Of all the articles and posts that I have followed on Design Sponge over the past 4 years gee that long already are the home tours. I absolutely look forward to it — and naturally — the Before and After tours as well. I am so glad you put this collection of images together. It tells of the individual, collective, wonderful creativity in these folk and their homes.
