God Storm

Life of Pi is a strangely affecting film that employs an adventure story and 3D photography to pose a simple question: Does God exist?

God and Life of Pi

Life of Pi 's ending can be confusing. We explain what really happened to Pi and Richard Parker in the film and book as well as what it all means. Though, for every mention of Life of Pi 's beautiful 3D or amazing CGI tiger, there's a fuddled viewer confused by the movie's controversial ending. Readers of Yann Martel's original novel the ones who made it to the end have already faced the challenging last-minute question presented by the story's narrator, but filmgoers expecting a fanciful adventure at sea have been understandably caught off-guard by the finale. If you do not want to be spoiled about either, turn away now.

It is one of my favourite books of all time. Life of Pi is a fantasy adventure novel by Martel published in But after my previous post, people started asking me questions about it. Before we can begin to answer that question, we first need to take a look at the ending of Life of Pi. In his first story, after the cargo ship sinks Pi finds himself joined on the lifeboat by a group of zoo animals that have managed to escape: an orangutan, a spotted hyena, a zebra with a broken leg and a Bengal Tiger Richard Parker. After some time, Pi watches helplessly as the hyena kills the zebra and then the orangutan before it is, subsequently, dispatched by Richard Parker. Kind of like trying to adapt that story to film, as screenwriter David Magee and director Ang Lee did brilliantly in Life of Pi , which opens nationwide today. The tiger, which in a bit of levity to the story is named Richard Parker, keeps Pi alert and sane while he struggles to survive. One of the more interesting pieces in the book, which translates beautifully onscreen, is the overarching view of God across religious traditions and aspects of faith. Hindus, in their capacity for love, are indeed hairless Christians, just as Muslims, in the way they see God in everything, are bearded Hindus, and Christians, in their devotion to God, are hat wearing Muslims. Pi dabbles in each, and sees truth in all.

Life of Pi is a story about struggling to survive through seemingly insurmountable odds. Pi abandons his lifelong vegetarianism and eats fish to sustain himself. Orange Juice, the peaceful orangutan, fights ferociously against the hyena. Even the severely wounded zebra battles to stay alive; his slow, painful struggle vividly illustrates the sheer strength of his life force. As Martel makes clear in his novel, living creatures will often do extraordinary, unexpected, and sometimes heroic things to survive.

Don't read this unless you've seen or read the Life of Pi. in a letter to the author, described it as "an elegant proof of God, and the power of storytelling". I survived”—perhaps the final message of the film is one that simply.
