My youngest daughter got married in April, I was asked to carry her youngest daughter 5 months old down the aisle and had was ashamed to be in any wedding pictures, my weight had gotten so bad. I could barely make it carrying her, my back hurt so much. My oldest grandson came for a visit in the summer, and I had to watch from the sidelines — unable to participate in any activities. My tipping point was no longer being able to hold my grandkids on my lap. My daughters were afraid for my health. I was getting to a point where I was soon going to be unable to make it up the stairs to my apartment.
Grenoble- you have been good. But now it is time to leave behind the breathtaking Alpine scenery and return to my beloved, flat Maastricht which I have learned to appreciate in manners, I did not image I ever would. Four months, to the day, I have lived in Grenoble- a beautiful city in the heart of the Alps. Over the past 16 weeks, I have been able to discover a new country, visits various cities, improve my French less than I anticipated because I spoke in English with all my international friends and eat and drink myself through various local delicacies. France has thought me that I have to be more relaxed at times, that things pay off no matter how challenging they appear to be in the beginning. I realized that happiness can be found everywhere- may it be a hike in the mountains or a glass of wine. I learned that jumping over your shadow can be rewarding.
