They follow fashion trends to look like other women, they get thick lips, tiny waist, big round butt, big breasts, small nose, perfect wrinkle-less skin, thick long hair, perfect flat tummy, slim arms and perfect nails. Society tells us these words will ease our critical eye when peering into the mirror. So many amazing advertising movements try to convince us to stop criticizing ourselves, to accept ourselves for who we are. They remind us many of the images we use as references for perfect beauty are photoshopped. We use bodyimage and bodypositive to spread the love. We smile at the Dove commercials for the Campaign for Real Beauty because they inspire us. We tell ourselves we are pretty enough. We tell ourselves we are worthy, strong, and beautiful in all of the most important ways.
When a girl or, in some cases, a guy , regardless of their looks, believes herself to be unattractive. Usually, it's because they're lacking in conventional beauty, but it's rare for them to actually be ugly. Tomboys and Girl Next Door types are especially prone to believing this when comparing themselves to other women, who have more feminine qualities. At least, until someone dolls them up , or helps them see that they're perfectly fine as they are. Amazonian types may feel the same way, because they often think guys aren't into them. As are pettankos , who may feel inferior to other girls' endowments. While for others, it may have to do with being over their 'ideal weight'.
