Will Rogers Bronze Medallion Winner
The winners will be announced at the annual banquet in Fort Worth, Texas, on Saturday, October 27, I am making plans to attend the ceremonies. Followers of this blog will recall that Bear Claws was also awarded first place in fiction in by the Wyoming State Historical Society. Dear Mr. Murphy, Congratulations on another great book. I really loved reading them all.
Noble author John J. It is an exciting, turbulent, challenging book to match the times, with well-drawn characters, historical figures, and fast-paced action. It is just one great book. Shortgrass won over entries submitted from across the country in the largest ever Will Rogers Medallion Award competition. Originally created to honor outstanding volumes of cowboy poetry, it expanded into other categories as interest and reader demand increased. Will Rogers was an accomplished author as well as a cowboy entertainer, and the purpose of the award is to honor this facet of his legacy, as well as to highlight current books that embody strong content, excellent production values, and enduring interest.
But I digress. To be selected as a finalist among such distinguished writers was worth the trip to Fort Worth; but, to actually wear one of the prestigious medals gets the heart pounding. Kudos to you, Robert. Well deserved and I look forward to reading the 2nd of the 3. I love your style of writing, so easy and descriptive. Always feel as though I come away from reading your books a more well rounded and informed individual. I love history and you have increased my love of our past.
